What To Look For In A Colon Cleanser
For a proper colon cleanse there are four key components. Those ingredients are Fiber, an Herbal Laxative, an Anti-Parasite Remedy and a Probiotic Blend. For your cleanse to work its best you must have all 4 in combination.
1. Soluble Fiber
Fiber creates the volume you need to promote elimination and prevent constipation. As a side bonus it can also produce weight loss. The recommended amount of fiber to maintain colon health is between 25-35 grams/day. The majority of fiber you want is the bulk forming soluble type of fiber. Soluble fiber expands and really cleans the intestinal walls as it passes through. It collects all the nasties trapped in crevices and folds of the colon.
Once the fiber has done its job of collecting and removing all the toxic buildup, parasites and yeast that have made your colon their home, your body will also be given the chance to start getting rid of the fat that was used to protect you from those toxins.
Psyllium husks fiber and oat bran fiber are 2 popular forms of soluble fiber.
2. Herbal Laxative
An herbal laxative that is safe and non-habit forming is the objective here. You don't want anything like the laxatives you can find in the local drugstore which tend to have harsh chemicals and can be habit forming. This will ensure the proper elimination of all the gunk by stimulating the bowel. If you let all that gunk stay in the colon for too long you will have defeated the purpose of your cleanse because it will all just be re-absorbed.
Once your body returns to a healthier state and your bowel movements are regular you will no longer need the herbal laxative. This is only needed to ensure that all the toxic junk trapped in the fiber is eliminated quickly and efficiently. Once the toxins are out the body can return its normal functions, think of this as a way to turbo charge the cleansing process.
Cascara Sagrada and Senna Leaf are among the most popular herbal ingredients to stimulate bowel movements.
3. Anti-Parasite Herbal Remedy
You must combine a few herb to fully get rid of parasites. For example, If you just eliminate the adults, the tiny larvae and eggs will quickly develop into adults and reproduce. However, if you just eliminate the eggs and skip the millions of parasites that are already developing in your body they will quickly develop into adults and start making eggs. Different herbs are effective on different stages of developing parasites must be used simultaneously as one remedy.
As an example these three herbs can eliminate parasites and their eggs: Black Walnut Hulls, Wormwood, and Cloves. Black Walnut Hull and Wormwood destroy adults and the growing stages of over 100 parasites. Cloves will destroy the eggs. Ideally your colon cleanse will contain a similar combination of herbs that each perform the equivalent function.
4. Probiotic Blend
In the process of killing the parasites in your colon the friendly bacteria can get caught in the cross-fire. You need a good probiotic blend to repopulate your colon with the good guys. This helps prevents any yeast or parasites from re-establishing themselves. The good bacteria crowd out the bad guys and keep the neighborhood up.
At a minimum the probiotic should have Lactobacillus Acidophilus. Another good strain to look for is Bifidobacterium Lactis. There are some others but those are the 2 big names in probiotics and the main ones to look out for.
Now that you have an understanding of the main components of the ideal colon cleanser we would like to encourage you to check out our colon cleanse reviews. Overall we generally recommend the DrFloras brand. It is an affordable, complete system that contains all 4 components and it works great. In fact it is the one we use ourselves.
That being said, we do encourage people to try different products because of the unique way each person's body works. Different things work for different people, so it is important to keep trying and not give up just because one product gave you undesirable results.
It is also a good idea to know the active ingredients of the products you are trying, that way you will know if the next product to try is likely to be a new (and hopefully more successful) experience. For example, many products designed to promote bowel movements use Cascara Sagrada as their main ingredient, but some people have reported an 'immediate need' to rush to bathroom with this, so perhaps it's a good idea to try a product which uses magnesium oxides or Senna Leaf instead.
